Closures & Delays

In the case of a school delay or closure for weather or other emergency, the FIRST PLACE the notice will be publicized is on our web site home page at www.monumentacademy.net.

MEDIA STATION NOTIFICATION:
We provide closure and delay information to the media through Flash Alert as a courtesy; however, we have no control over what time the posting will be listed on radio and TV stations. There is sometimes up to a 45-minute delay with this service. For the timeliest updates, always check the school website. Check the parent/student handbook for a list of local TV & radio stations that broadcast Flash Alerts. In addition, information for all organizations in our region can be obtained by visiting www.flashalert.net. School closings or delayed start decisions are usually posted at this site between 5:00-5:30 a.m. on days when weather is a factor in the operation of schools. These sites also display the latest information on evening activities when weather conditions worsen during the course of a day.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL, THE DISTRICT, OR ADMINISTRATORS WITH QUESTIONS OR INQUIRIES — THEY NEED THEIR PHONES TO IMPLEMENT THESE INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURES.

EMAIL & TEXT MESSAGING:
Monument Academy will send an email and/or text to families using the email address(es) and cell phone numbers in your ParentSquare account. Parents may also sign up for District 38 text alerts. Families may choose to receive text messages via cell phone by logging into their Infinite Campus Parent Portal and signing up for text messaging. The link to sign up is on the first page after you have logged in on the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side.
These alerts will give you the District closure or delay. Monument Academy will follow this AT A MINIMUM. We may cancel school on a day that the district has called a two-hour delay. Always check the Monument Academy website for school specific closures and delays. We may delay our start of school when the district has not.

IF THERE IS A TWO-HOUR DELAY:

  • The website will be updated as soon as the decision to delay is made, usually by 5:30 a.m.
  • Local stations will be notified via Flash Alert.
  • Email will be sent to parents/guardians using the email address(es) listed in IC Parent Portal accounts.
  • After school activities will usually go on as scheduled.
  • Parents are expected to make arrangements for the care of their child until school opens.
  • Delays on ½-day Fridays, CLOSED school at MA.

We may call a two-hour delay when the district has not called any delay.
This is for the safety of our students, staff, and families and due to being a carline school.
Always check the school website for the most immediate notice.
